Natural aquarium substrates

Dolomite sand and gravel in granules 1-2mm and 2-4mm. Raises the pH of water, gives the alkaline reaction, ideal for Malawi and Tanganyika biotopes. Some of the applied sands have very little effect on the chemical values of the water. Therefore, it is suggested to use such materials on the substrate of Tanganian tanks that would have a high magnesium content, which reacts with our water. Such rocks are the Dolomites. Metamorphic dolomites were formed by the metasomatic transformation of calcite deposits. In this process, the calcium carbonate contained therein was partially superseded by magnesium carbonate. The source of magnesium in these transformations was seawater.
